A violinist with dazzling technique and rare sensibility, Sung-Ju Lee has captivated audiences around the world with her "imaginative playing and luminous sound" (Koelner Stadt-Anzeiger, Cologne), her "impeccable technique" (Il Gazzettino, Venice), and her "taste for the dramatic and unflagging sense of authority" (LA Times).
She launched her career with a New York debut in 1977 as a winner of the "Young Concert Artists" competition and was immediately recognized as "a first-rate violinist" by the New York Times. She has since won 1st prize in the Wieniawski-Kosciuszko Violin Competition in New York, a top prize in the Sibelius Competition in Finland, a special citation as a finalist in the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, and a Laureate diploma from the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium.
She has performed with the Czech Philharmonic, the Hungarian National Philharmonic, the St. Louis Symphony, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and others. In 1994, Sung-Ju Lee was appointed as a professor at the Korean National University of Arts in Seoul. In 2001, she was also acclaimed as the music director of the string ensemble, Joy of Strings.
