First Prize winner of the Hannover Competition in 1997 and Second Prize winner of the Paganini Competition in 1992, Michiko Kamiya has performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg, Stockholm Chamber Orchestra, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and NHK Symphony Orchestra, under the batons of Charles Dutoit, Myung-Whun Chung, Rudolf Barshai, and others.
She has appeared as a guest artist at the Aspen Festival, Verbier Festival, Ravinia Festival, and Kuhmo Festival. As a chamber musician, she has collaborated with Régis Pasquier, David Geringas, Olivier Charlier, and the Tokyo String Quartet. She is also the founder and musical director of Ensemble Art Vivant, a chamber orchestra based in Tokyo.
Kamiya studied under Koichiro Harada at Toho Gakuen School of Music, Dorothy DeLay at Juilliard School, and György Pauk in London. After teaching at the École Normale de Musique in Paris, she currently serves as a professor at the Toho Gakuen School of Music.
